Chris Bowen’s vision for a one term Labor government

…Bowen believes in fiscal discipline, market forces, a more progressive tax system, winding back tax concessions in the cause of ­equity, the utility of state intervention in social policy, strong immigration, more intense Asian engagement, open regional trade and structural changes at the heart of economic decision-making. He is cautious in deliberation, reformist in ambition but a hard-headed political realist.

…Bowen says of Keating: “There are days when we might talk three times, it varies like any friendship. Sometimes Paul will see something in the media he wants to talk to me about, sometimes I will ring for advice. We normally talk several times a week.”
