Of the six new locally-acquired cases, investigations are continuing into three cases (including one reported yesterday). The remaining three cases are all linked to the current outbreaks and were in quarantine during their infectious period.
Of biggest concern, a female teacher at the Al-Taqwa College in Truganina has tested positive for the virus. Health authorities are concerned that the teacher may have been infectious within the school and in the broader community since 28 July. Accordingly, the Islamic school has been closed, with all staff and students ordered to self-isolate.
Another three Islamic schools in Melbourne have also closed temporarily as a precautionary measure.
The Al-Taqwa College contributed to Victoria’s second COVID wave in 2020, with more than 200 cases.
