The NSW Government has renamed the “Greater Sydney Commission” the “Greater Cities Commission” as it prepares to drive Greater Sydney’s population to 9 million people to “maximise its productivity and compete with global population hubs”:
[Chief Commissioner] Geoff Roberts said the six-city region – which also includes the three Sydney cities of the “eastern harbour”, “central river” and “western parklands” – would have a population of about 9 million by 2050 which would need to be much better connected…
He said the commission would follow the principle that people should be able to commute within their neighbourhood within 15 minutes, their city within 30 minutes and their region within 90.
