Engineers Australia demands migrants while half sit unemployed

A freedom of information request has revealed that the Home Affairs Department has over 6,000 applications for the 476 visa that it is yet to process.

The 476 visa is designed for recent engineering graduates who want to live, work or study in Australia for up to 18 months, with processing times for it having risen to 41 months since 2018.

The backlog in processing 476 visa applications comes as the engineering job vacancy rate has increased 97% in 12 months.
