Engineering highlights Australia’s ‘skilled’ visa farce

Look no further than engineering for a textbook example of why Australia’s ‘skilled’ visa system is broken.

On Wednesday, The ABC reported that Australia was suffering from “a national shortfall of 30,000 engineers, which is forecast to surpass 100,000 in seven years”.

Transport for NSW told The ABC that Australia’s engineering shortage has made hiring locally difficult, prompting the hiring of engineers from Malaysia, Poland and Spain.
