‘Cult of consultants’ overruns NSW state government

For years, MB decried how decades of government outsourcing, waves of senior redundancies, and governments’ inclination to seek advice from hired consultants had undermined Australia’s public sector.

As a result, the public sector’s long-standing reputation for “frank and fearless advice” has faded, replaced by propaganda and paid assessments aimed at a specific political goal.

The 2022 Senate Committee report “APS Inc: undermining public sector capability and performance” supported this view, labelling consultants as “ticket clippers” and “rent seekers” who contribute to the politicisation of the public sector.
