Debunking the migration catch-up myth

We often hear Big Australia shills claim that Australia’s population is still smaller than it would be if it were not for the pandemic.

These shills often also claim that Australia’s immigration has been at record levels because of “catch-up” migration.

Last year, a Coalition MP used a good analogy to ridicule this “catch-up” claim. He said that if we stop for 15 minutes at roadworks on the way to Sydney from Melbourne, we don’t drive 200 KPH to catch up for lost time because that would be reckless.
