Conservation groups ignore biggest environmental threat

Greenpeace, the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF), and WWF Australia are among several environmental groups that will actively target Labor in the run-up to the federal election.

They will help fund an advertising campaign against the federal government’s plans to legislate to protect Tasmania’s salmon industry. The groups contend that the legislation will hasten the extinction of the Maugean skate, which is listed as an endangered species.

The environmental groups have been funding an advertising campaign against the Coalition’s nuclear energy policy. This funding will be redirected to the campaign to protect the Maugean skate.
