After his recent botching of the Chinese maritime missile tour of Australia’s major cities, Albo is again trumped by the appearance of another hostile Chinese vessel. The Australian.
Defence has handed responsibility for the monitoring of a suspected Chinese spy ship to the Australian Border Force despite Anthony Albanese’s claim that the ADF is on the case.
Security experts have warned the dual-use Chinese research vessel Tan Suo Yi Hao, currently operating off South Australia, is almost certainly gathering undersea data to assist in future Chinese submarine operations.
…“What our task is to do is to make sure that we represent Australia’s national interests. We do that each and every day.”
But Defence Minister Richard Marles’ office referred questions about the ship to Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke, saying it was Border Force’s responsibility because it was in Australia’s exclusive economic zone.
This election is taking on the dimensions of the Twilight Zone. We have:
- An economy in perma-recession.
- An energy system on the verge of collapse.
- An autocratic Great Power mapping our cost for live fire exercises and future gunboat diplomacy operations.
- Deteriorating relations with the existing Great Power that is the only guarantee of our liberal democratic system.
- A hopelessly inadequate continental defence.
- No discussion of any of it for fear of upsetting Chinese electorates and Albo’s fatwa against mentioning the country that must not be named.
- An immigration system that is making that worse every minute while handing homelessness and weak wages to those already here.
- A paralysed central bank that has been reformed to no purpose and refuses to mention immigration.
- A deepening budget deficit ahead of a major terms of trade accident.
Australia is in deep trouble, and all Albo wants to do is put everybody to sleep with platitudes that not even he understands.
A foreign bolt-hole looks like good insurance right now.
