Dislikeable Dutton sends Coalition to new low

Opinion polls continue to collapse on Peter Dutton and the Coalition ahead of Saturday’s federal election.

The latest YouGov polling has the Coalition’s primary vote plunging to just 31%, down from 33% last week, with Labor’s primary vote rising 0.5% to 33.5%.

The result is the lowest-ever primary vote the Coalition has received, according to YouGov polling, driven by collapsing support for opposition leader Peter Dutton.

“The public has clearly made a decision that they don’t want Peter Dutton as prime minister”, YouGov director of public data Paul Smith said.

The Coalition’s two-party support has fallen to 46.5%, seven points below Labor on 53.5%.

Redbridge’s latest polling shows similar trends, with Labor now tracking at 54.5% across 20 marginal seats.

All polls indicate that voters have swung hard against the Coalition, which was leading Labor at the beginning of the year.

Virtually every poll since March has been a whitewash for Labor, with the margin widening as the election draws closer.

If the election result ends up mirroring the latest polling, the Albanese government will likely pick up seats and widen its margin.

The Coalition should immediately dump Peter Dutton as leader and reinvigorate the front bench with new blood. Rising stars like Jacinta Price should also be promoted to senior roles.
